Similar to calculating food costs, you need to designate a time frame where you will analyze the beverage costs for your restaurant. This can be one week, one month or several months. Typically, the longer time you allow for analysis, the better and more accurate the information you will gain from the report. Usually, non alcoholic beverages like soda, coffee, juice, water etc, are not included in your beverage costing calculations, instead these should be included in your food costing analysis.

After the reporting period, you’ll then need to total the beverage sales for each variety of beverage, such as beer, wine, mixed drinks, etc. You’ll then need to figure out your total beverage purchases from that same time period, which will be your cost of beverage sales. You’ll then need to determine your inventory adjustment. This means you compare the inventory at the end of your reporting period to the inventory at the very beginning of the reporting period. For instance, if the beginning inventory level for whiskey is $250, and at the end of the reporting period, the inventory level is valued at $170, then the inventory adjustment is the $80 difference. You then apply this difference to the total purchases for the reporting period, thus giving you your total cost for beverage sales. Then you can figure out your beverage cost percentage by using the National Restaurant Association’s calculation method, which is “Beverage Cost = Cost of Beverage Sales/Beverage Sales”. Once you have this information, you can analyze your total sales and costs and make adjustments for increasing profit and efficiency. Typical figures for a restaurant’s beverage cost percentage are 30% – 32%. You can then compare the performance during the reporting period to previous performances and this will allow you to identify any problems or trends, thus allowing you to tightly control and decrease beverage costs.

Energy Drinks are taking consumers by storm. They are also taking investors and businesses by storm. It’s not just Energy Drinks, it’s all the category, called New Age Beverages that includes energy drinks, vitamin waters, new sodas, flavored waters, high end waters, and all the new style of beverages.

And now, after the announcement of Vitaminwater selling for $4.1 billion dollars everyone wants a peace of the action.

Everyone can start their own Energy Drink or New Age Beverage. The barrier of entry to get into the market is not very high. You don’t need to have millions of dollars to start your own energy drink. You do need some money but you need more vision and work.

Why passion and elbow grease? Well, just because you bottle your Energy Drink does not mean you’ll sell it. Distributors get hundreds of calls per month from new energy drinks, or “JAED” (Just Another Energy Drink). Don’t be a “JEAD”, be different, position your product in a new way. Don’t just say “I have the best flavor” or “it tastes better than red bull”. Having a better tasting energy drink is not the basis for a new company. It is very easy to have a better tasting energy drink.

To start your new venture you need vission and a lot of work. You need to believe in your products and that you will succeed. You need to see the project through. You also need to put the work in. Just because you have some cases made of energy drinks it does not mean you’ll sell them. You need something else. You need to make calls, visit people, make it happen.

. You have to realize that Vitamin Water is not the first company to get big cash for their brand. The energy drink and beverage industry is super hot. New companies are started every day. We have gotten at least 2,000 phone calls or emails from new ventures. Many companies that you now think as the market leaders started not long ago as start-ups.

Besides the big news companies like Vitaminwater you can find many companies getting funding, selling or going public. Not to mention many more companies that received funding or went public.

Other companies like Reeds Beverage, Who’s Your Daddy, Jones Soda and Hensen with Monster Energy Drink access funding through the public markets. These and many others are public companies traded in the New York Stock Exchange, the NASDAQ or the OTC (Over the Counter).

I get a lot of calls from entrepreneurs starting their energy drinks and many more from investors looking to invest in companies or performing due diligence. At the moment I have at least 100 people contacting me every month wanting to know about the New Age Beverage Industry, Energy Drinks, how to get distribution, how to export, how to bottle drinks or to go over business plans or other information. The industry is growing and the category is growing even faster

Now let me tell you a bit about Energy Drinks. Energy Drinks are the new Super Profitable products. Everybody makes money, the manufacturer, the distributor and the retailer. You see, Energy Drinks sell for $1.99 to $2.40 at the stores for 8 to 16 ounces. This is incredible if you consider that you can buy a soda that’s the same size for $0.50 to $0.75. Even a 20 ounce soda runs you about $1.25.

Distributors love the product because they make about $8 per every case they sell compared with about $2 to $4 for their other products. Retailers love it because they can make from $16 to $20 per case.

This business is work, but there is a lot of profit in it and even more fun. You have special events, parties, promotions, and you can spin and position your products the way you want, having fun in the process.

The art of drinking wine is one that many people appreciate. For these people having a good quality wine means that it can be drunk at the right temperature. This means that the wine should not be too warm where the sophisticated flavor will be lost. One of the nicest wines that you can buy is an ice wine.

As there are many types of ice wines you will need to find some information about ice wine before you make your choice. There are some very good resources that you can use to gain some information about ice wine. These places are the library, bookstores and the internet.

You will find that ice wine is an expensive wine that is made in Canada, Germany, Austria, America, Hungary and other countries. To make the ice wine the vineyards in these vineyards allow the wine grapes to stay on the vine until well into winter where the temperatures will naturally freeze the grapes while they are on the vine. Once the grapes have been frozen to the standard that is required they are hand harvested in the night or early morning hours.

These are the times when the weather is still very cold. Since ice wine needs to be made in cold temperatures the wine makers will work in unheated wine callers. To make this delicious ice wine lots of iced Riesling, Videl Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and other wine grapes are used.

Ice wine is considered to be a sweet tasting wine that is refreshing, with a wine aroma that is composed of tropical fruits, lychees and mangos. This aroma is very visible to the nose in the white ice wine varieties. You will find that most ice wines have a full bodied taste to them. The most common flavors that you will encounter in this sweet dessert drink, is that of fruits like peaches, dried apricots, and figs. You will also taste honey and other flavors that give this ice wine its lingering finish.

The ice wine that you have chosen will nicely round off your meal and leave a pleasant taste in your mouth. The right ice wine that is chosen with care will complement your dessert. So the next time that you are thinking of buying a dessert wine for your evening meal you may want to see about buying a fabulous tasting ice wine. You will be pleasantly surprised at how smooth and sophisticated this expensive wine tastes.

A cocktail is a style of mixed drink. However, not all mixed drinks are cocktails. A cocktail usually contains one or more types of liquor and flavorings and one or more liqueurs, fruit juices, sauces, honey, milk, cream or spices, etc. The cocktail became popular with Prohibition in the United States. During Prohibition the art of mixing drinks became more and more important to mask the taste of bootlegged alcohol. The bartenders at a speakeasy would mix it with other ingredients, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. After the repeal of Prohibition, the skills developed in illegal bars became widespread and heralded the golden era of the cocktail, the 1930s. One of the oldest known cocktails, the Cognac-based Sazerac, dates from 1850s New Orleans, as many as 70 years prior to Prohibition.

Until the 1970s, cocktails were made predominantly with gin, whiskey or rum, and less commonly vodka. From the 1970s on, the popularity of vodka increased dramatically, and by the 1980s it was the predominant base for mixed drinks. Many cocktails traditionally made with gin, such as the gimlet, or the martini, may now be served by default with vodka.

Black tea is more oxidized than the green, oolong and white varieties.

All four varieties are made from leaves of Camellia sinensis. Black tea is generally stronger in flavor and contains more caffeine than the less oxidized teas.

In Chinese and culturally influenced languages, black tea is known as red tea (紅茶, Mandarin Chinese hóngchá; Japanese kōcha; Korean hongcha), perhaps a more accurate description of the color of the liquid. The name black tea, however, could alternatively refer to the colour of the oxidized leaves. In Chinese, black tea is a commonly used classification for post-fermented teas, such as Pu-erh tea. However, in the western world, “red tea” more commonly refers to South African rooibos tisane.

While green tea usually loses its flavor within a year, black tea retains its flavor for several years. For this reason, it has long been an article of trade, and compressed brick of black tea even served as a form of de facto currency in Mongolia, Tibet and Siberia into the 19th century. It was known since the Tang dynasty that black tea steeped in hot water could also serve as a passable cloth dye for the lower classes that couldn’t afford the better quality clothing colors of the time. However, far from being a mark of shame, the “brown star” mark of the dying process was seen as much better than plain cloth and held some importance as a mark of the lower merchant classes through the Ming Dynasty The tea originally imported to Europe was either green or semi-oxidized. Only in the the 19th century did black tea surpass green in popularity. Although green tea has recently seen a revival due to its purported health benefits, black tea still accounts for over ninety percent of all tea sold in the West.

The expression black tea is also used to describe a cup of tea without milk (served black), similar to coffee served without milk or cream. In Commonwealth nations, black tea is not commonly consumed black, as adding milk is the common practice.
